Without knowing pretty much anything else, why would you want to go 6 1/2" from PAP?
For one, you take a chance of being too close to the track and could cause back flaring.
Secondly, if you don't invert the flare, with the flare rings being so tight or right ontop of each other, the ball (not knowing what type of ball) may become squirty, with the oil sitting ontop of itself.
I would recommend going closer to 5-5 1/2" and adjusting the surface.

sorry for bringing up old topics, this q is still for the heavily oiled shot. I'm about to punch an 'oiler'.  Typically i get the best reactions from 5 - 5 1/2" pin-pap positions.  I just put the pin down for equip used in this type of condition.  Would you recommend trying 4 1/2" or stronger?  Can one over-flare and cause the ball to react poor?  Tighter flaring (as long as not toooo tight) seems to hook more for me?

I have a VE with a 50* 4.5 65*.  It's also at 1000, no polish.  I won't know how it is on a PBA shot till this weekend, but on a THS it doesn't last me 3 games.  I'm a cranker with moderate speed.  This ball, and the VG I have (55* 5 65*) has huge flare, but both react very well for me.  I also have a Twisted Fury Solid and Black Widow Sting with similar layouts that also work well, but just enough of a difference to which they aren't all the same ball.

My style doesn't agree with a pin to pap shorter than 4 inches.

You may be the better bowler, but my car would blow the doors off of yours.
