My Arsenal, need opinions
« on: December 24, 2007, 04:37:06 AM »
I am taking the winter season to focus on getting my physical game ready, in the summer we start our "shot of the week" league (pba regional stuff, US Open, Tournament of Champs, a lot of fun and I want to be ready for it. If I do well enough to feel comfortable on tight shots I want to start bowling in some tournaments in the area. I don't know the shots so I am starting to put together a balanced arsenal, heres what I got so far.

Personal:
PAP: 4 7/8 over, 1 up
Speed: 15-16
Revs: low-moderate

Awesome Hook
Finish: 800 Sanded (out of box if im not mistaken)
Drill: 10/20 using a dual angle layout with a 4 inch pin to pap.
This ball is all but useless on most house shots, this was the intention. Giving me a solid early roll. I am thinking with a 500 sanded surface this will help burn an area on the longer patterns where my rev rate slacks.
Proposed Patterns: 5, US Open, Tournament of Champions
--------
HawgZilla
Finish: 4000 Sheen
Drill: 40/30 using a dual angle layout with a 4 inch pin to pap
Got to throw this today, even though it was on a house shot, it was very predictable and ROLLED. This did exactly as I wanted it to, did not over react and gave me a very nice arc, even when playing in the middle of the lane.
Proposed Patterns: 4, 5, US Open
--------
Track Temper
Finish: 2000 Sanded
Drill: 60/30 4 inch pin to pap: This puts my pin right above the bridge. This gives me a lot of versatility for my game. I can throw some polish on it for a long and strong and can just as easily take it off for more an arc. In either case this gives me length and rolls later.
Proposed Patterns: 3 & 4
--------
Hammer Cherry Vibe
Finish: 2000 Rough a Buff
Drill: 60/30 4 1/2 inch pin to pap: Again, pin above the bridge. The goal was to drill a stronger version of this ball, hence the temper. This is really nice for house shots and burned up shorter patterns.
Proposed Patterns: 1 & 2
--------
Track Desert Heat
Finish: 2000 Polished
Drill: I am thinking of possibly drilling this one again, 60/30 with 4 inch pin to pap. If the heads are burned up, this is coming out of the bag. I don't see myself using this often on the regional shots, but its there if I need it.
Proposed Patterns: THS, Burned heads.
--------
Spare Ball

I don't think I need any more equipment, personally. I of course can change balls for transition and what not. My goal here is to have a VERSATILE arsenal.

One of my good friends is getting me a Black Widow Bite for Christmas, how do you think I should drill it up? Do you see any gaps?

My thoughts:
20/30 with a 4 inch pin to pap (This pin to pap distance works very well for me, hence the reason I use it in just about every drilling). This gives my combined drill angle to be 50, which would fit in between the Awesome Hook and Hawgzilla. Thoughts?
