Layouts for an "oiler" ???
« on: November 18, 2009, 04:04:23 AM »
What layouts have any of you roomies had success with ??? There are times when everyone else is playing 12-4 board and the heads are spotty, I just want to move in deep (3rd-4th arrow), keep it tight and not swing it, and get a strong, roll up motion on the backends. This would be a "condition-specific" ball/layout.

Any suggestions ??? Thanx !!!

BTW ... getting a strong particle coverstock with a strong core, in case you want/need to know.

i had on my Break S75 pin under the ring and everything was stacked under with a 500/4000 surface, I played between 17-13 on The Dead Mans Curve kegel pattern and scored +240 after 18 games. i throw the ball around 15-16mph and around 320-350 rev. ball was smooth with just enough reaction in the oil and i had some room for error even with the amount of oil that was out the. Straighter is Greater!!

I agree with myty299.  Pin under, 4" to 5" from PAP.  Cg down for a low weight hole.  This should give you good midlane without sacrificing too much on the backend.

Storm Fired Up Diablo, pin over the thumb, cg at the grip center, box surface.  Very little back end or right to left motion, but still great hitting power.  Created hold when there was very little or none.  Not very good right of 10, but awesome from left of 4th arrow.  Very condition specific.  Pretty bowler specific, did clip my middle finger just before the pin deck, but I could only hear it when the bowl was pretty quiet, couldn't hear it during tourney play.

I have two "oil balls", and they are set up very differently:

a) Fuze Eliminator, pin 4" under ring and CG at 45°, with an x-hole 1" wide and 3" deep on my PAP. The idea was to have a ball that would definitively flare and move, using the ball''s high differential. As aconsequence, I can keep the surface quite shiny, and it has a strong back end move that exploit and dry back end area. On THS, I can use this thing to play across the oil in the middle (between 3rd an 4th arrow). The light carbide particle load makes it also a good transition ball.

b) Lanemasters New Standard², label drill with pin at 4" from PAP, slightly above ring finger (due to a long pin it came with). Totally different "concept": Here, I wanted to exploit the high particle load traction in the mid lane, and the label setup just delivers that. It hooks early, has a tamer back end, and compared to the Eliminator a much more arcing, overall even move. Hooks less than the Eliminator, but my 1st choice for control on slippery and spotty lanes, as long as the heads are still intact.
IMO, this one would fill your bill well - and it is a very simple but effective layout (symmetrical core recommended).

Rob, so I take it so you re getting a Dynamic Power?

I picked one upo and that ball in silly strong, It needs plenty of oil, and looks to be the ball that you are looking for. Just lay it out with a 4-5 inch to PAP and there you have an early rolling super oiler.

A pin 5" x 3" Cg with pin below the fingers will work good. This is similar to what kman suggested. =:^D
