I have two "oil balls", and they are set up very differently:
a) Fuze Eliminator, pin 4" under ring and CG at 45°, with an x-hole 1" wide and 3" deep on my PAP. The idea was to have a ball that would definitively flare and move, using the ball''s high differential. As aconsequence, I can keep the surface quite shiny, and it has a strong back end move that exploit and dry back end area. On THS, I can use this thing to play across the oil in the middle (between 3rd an 4th arrow). The light carbide particle load makes it also a good transition ball.

Totally different "concept": Here, I wanted to exploit the high particle load traction in the mid lane, and the label setup just delivers that. It hooks early, has a tamer back end, and compared to the Eliminator a much more arcing, overall even move. Hooks less than the Eliminator, but my 1st choice for control on slippery and spotty lanes, as long as the heads are still intact.
IMO, this one would fill your bill well - and it is a very simple but effective layout (symmetrical core recommended).
