Question about balance holes.
« on: March 10, 2006, 12:45:07 AM »
Question for you guys.  I have two Raw Hammer Dooms that are drilled the same.  Pin above the bridge and cg kicked right to 1oz.  I have no balance hole in these balls.  The pin ends up being 5.5" from my pap.

I plan on putting some delayed reaction on one of these balls to get it too work better on real dry lanes.  The length is fine for the most part but the back end on toasted conditions is too strong.

My question is could I add a balance hole somewhere that would noticably tame the back end on super dry lanes?

Place the weighthole on your PAP to tame the reaction and drill to maybe an 1/8th to a 1/4 ounce side weight to smooth the transition from oil to dry.  Weight holes anywhere else than on the PAP will increase the flare and thus the reaction.

This is SO not true. I am speaking more of the last sentence.

Place the hole 4" from grip center and about 1/2" up from pap.

Chitown,

gotta agree with the boss here.

If you're going down a notch in oil handling, weight hole manipulation will have minimal effect. It might work for a league transition from 2nd game to 3rd game, but not really if you looking to handle  a full step down to a drier oil pattern.

I'd suggest sanding it to 2000 grit and then use Factory Finish polish. (Stock is 1000 grit + polish). Next step might be adding more Factory Finish or go to Ebo's Extender polish. If that doesn't work, sand to 4000 grit and use Factory Polish.
