Cell CG??
« on: February 28, 2008, 10:34:14 AM »
I also posted this in the ROTO GRIP forum...

So I got my self a Cell... Well it came in today and I am little concerned that I won't beable to do withit what I want...

BASICS:My PAP is roughly 5in over and 1/8 up... According to cats in 2001 I have a rev rate aroung 375-400 (I can't remember)...I can play up the 5 board (yes really) with success and I can play 30 to 7 with good success.

The Ball: The ball I got has a 3in pin and 3.28 top weight, but the CG if 1 1/3 inches right on the pin to MB line...

My question is - will I still be able to drill it 4X4 or even 5X3??? I know it might need a weight hole, but my concern is it might need a huge weight hole and I am not a fan of that, plus I like to try and keep things simple, but I can't see putting the MB in the track to label drill it...

Your help is appreciated - please only serious responses...

Hey Kurwin,

The cell is asymmetrical, which isn't drilled utilizing the CG as a point of reference.  You place the mass bias and pin a certain distance from your PAP, and only utilize a weight hole to tweak reaction or simply bring static weights back in limits.  I can't tell if you're referencing your layouts by pin/cg or pin/mb coordinates....either way.

If you're worried about the weight hole, 3.28 top is not extreme.  You shouldn't have too much trouble getting that out.  In fact it might be a good thing.  A large, deep hole placed closer to your grip (closer to the pin) will make the ball tend to rev up faster in heavier blend conditions.

Tell me what kind of roll are you trying to get out of this ball and I might be able to help.  From your profile you seem to have a game kinda similar to me...so I might be of some assistance.

I am looking for something that will create a little less skid/flip.  I have a Black Widow Pearl that is 4X4 (pin/MB) and i love the reaction, but because it is pearl it tends to go long and flip not as hard as some of the stuff I have, none the less - I love the reaction and decided that the Cell would be a compliment on Oil.

THank you for your help...

If you have a revrate that high and are as versatile playing the lane, I wouldn't drill it too strong.  This ball is VERY aggressive, and a 4" pin with you revrate could make it very one dimensional.  I would do a 4.5 - 5" pin and a 3-4" MB.  Put the pin under the fingers and allow there to be a hole.  If you make the pin on the weaker side (5") you shouldn't have a big problem using it with a little surface.  If you go stronger I would hit it with a 2000 abralon so it doesn't try to burn up.

I think you'll enjoy the ball, don't let a weight hole get in the way of it.

Good luck!

So the 5X3 Might be a better layout then the 4X4...

I agree with that being the better of the two.  You could even go 5x4, just be sure to keep the pin down.  That ball is VERY strong....with your revrate you won't have a problem getting it started.  YOu just want to be sure it doesn't stop too fast.
