I just got dynothane's thing used off this website and left the drill pattern around the same.  Here's the pattern:  pin above the index finger(for a right hander), cg kicked out to the right and MB on the VAL.  Now what type of reaction should this give me?  When I throw it, it skids for about 40 feet and makes a little arc to the pocket rarely carrying a 10 pin.  Should I try to play with the coverstock-which is now shiny at about 1500-or is this a good layout for when the lanes dry out?  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Iketown300 -- From Dynothane's drilling instructions:

"Place the major pin 4-1/4" from the player's PAP and locate the mass bias (MB) along the player's perpendicular axis line (PAL).
This layout will most often require an extra hole, so place this hole on the PAP and remove excess side weight to '0.'
This layout works well to produce medium length and heavy midlane roll. Usually works well on medium to heavy oil, especially longer oil patterns."

Sound like your layout?  They also state that the coverstock reacts well to surface adjustments.  I'd try about 800 grit.  --  JohnP

No, it's not the layout, I have read those instructions and that layout give the ring below and a little to the right of the ring finger, on my thing it is above the middle finger and i am right handed.  Threw it today but before i did i put storm's reacta shine on it to hit it with some polish and got more of an arc backend which was nice and it carried well.  I might try taking it down to 800 to see the difference in the roll.  When you sand your bowling balls yourself do you use the grey, green, and red 3M pads or do you use wet/dry sandpaper?

Iketown300 -- The actual location of the pin is dependent on the bowler's PAP coordinates.  The drawing is just an example.  For this layout, the important criteria are for the pin to be 4 1/2 inches from the PAP and the MB to be on the VAL.  Then the pin falls where it falls.  You can envision how it would be at different locations for bowlers with a 4 inch horizontal and 1 inch vertical PAP versus a 5 1/2 inch horizontal and 1 1/2 inch vertical PAP.
 
Regarding the sanding question, I have both, but usually use the Scotchbrite pads.  The grey pad would be around 800 grit.  --  JohnP
