I just wanted to get some opinions on getting a Vapor Zone drilled. I talked to someone today that said he could do it for me tomorrow. He said to bring in another ball that I use for reference but I don't have one since I'm just getting back into bowling. I told him that and he mentioned putting a "generic layout" on it and putting the preferred axis pin about 2 inches from the thumb hole. How does that sound to you? Thanks.

Your ball driller doesnt have enough information from you about your bowling style to make an intelligent layout suggestion.

It's a safe drill, usually pin up and to the right of the ring finger with the PSA from 1" - 2" from thumb. After you've thrown this ball, he can then determine your PAP, and get more technical with the next ball.

The driller need to shoot crap for your first ball, since you have nothing to tell the driller or any ball for reference. You should have just have the driller to fit you up with a plastic first throw it on the lane and let the driller get you PAP and have some idea about your rev rate, speed, etc etc...
You gonna need a plastic no matter what if you say you wan tto get back in the game.

Did you toss it? How does the grip feel?

3 holes of fun!!

I just went and bowled 2 games with it and I did terrible. The thing definitely hooks but my release totally sucks. I'm going again at 10 and hope to do better. The grip feels pretty good but I have a blister at the inside base of my thumb after those 2 games.

You probably need a little more bevel in the area of the thumb hole where the blister is forming. Take it back and show it to your driller before you make the blister any worse. -- JohnP

Adding to JohnP- make sure the thumb hole is not too big and you are squeezing. Think about opening your hand during swing/release. Think about pushing your thumb nail to the back of the hole. If the ball drops off too fast, that is good, your driller can show you how to put some tape in the thumb hole to keep it snug. You want to guard against squeezing the ball if it is too big. Summer is coming your hand is going to get puffy in the warmer weather and as your commence bowling more.
Layout looks fine.
