Need some help from the Brunswick Guys
« on: May 22, 2007, 12:35:42 AM »
Gentlemen, I haven't drilled anything with the Big B for myself in years, since the Combat Zone.  I recently picked up a Radical for a steal and want to drill it as a moderately stronger replacement to my Hammer Doom.  My Doom was laid out        5 1/2 by 75* with the pin 3 1/2 above midline.  I would like to see the same clean move through the heads with a slightly stronger midlane, and a little more of an arching backend.  The ball in question has a 2 1/2' pin out and just under 2oz of top.  I'm thinking of doing a 6" 45* with the pin under.  Am I on the right track???

Thanks Ric I was hoping you'd chime in.  Any advice on weight hole placement?

Yeah, surface is touchy on this ball. My local pro (Brunswick staffer) had to experiment a lot until he got it right - he drills the RI a bit stronger than needed, because the ball is OOB quite squirty. Sometimes an added x-hole under PAP to increase flare also did a good job. Ball has good innate length, but can be a total breakpoint mess.

Another thing to try when the ball does not "behave" well is to knock off the polish - a friend of mine who suffered with the ball in the beginning and took it to 4.000 Abralon (plus flare x-hole), and only since then the ball has become a steady performer on medium to medium-dry shots.

Not a bad ball, just stay alert to make adjustments once you have it punched up, there is a lot to fine-tune with this ball and to reveal its potential.
