Alright, going to try again.
« on: May 22, 2007, 03:08:22 PM »
I currently have 1/8 reverse pitch in my thumb, and i drop it, time and again. Even if the thumb hole feels tight it just falls off about 6 inches behind me. So I changed my pitch to a flat 0. Well I suppose with 1/8 reverse I was grabbing it and its still happening. Im not lofting it, but the reaction is obviously different when I grab as opposed to not grabbing it.

Should I make the thumb hole tighter? (it is a bit loose)
Forward pitch? What do you think? I have a 4 3/4 span from ring to thumb and 4 5/8 middle to thumb.

You might also experiment with your left/right pitches. I am right-handed, and left pitch lets me clear the thumbhole earlier, while right pitch makes me stay in the ball a bit longer.

Right now, I have reverse pitch in my thumbholes also, so I have to keep them very tight, but pitching it just a bit right ( under palm ) could help, as long as you can still clear the thumb without hanging up in it.

I have also gone to using oval thumb sleeves instead of round ones.  This has not only helped me throw the ball better, it has made putting a proper thumb-hole in my ball as easy as drilling the span right and drop in the sleeve!  Used to take DAYS to get one perfect, now it takes just minutes, and I have as godd, if not better, feel than I've had in the past.

I have an +1/8 lateral already in it, so there ya go. I can barely feel it rub on the right side of my thumb, maybe take it back the other way?

If you went to 0" from 1/8" reverse, by how much did you reduce the span?
No matter what the thumb pitch, if the span isn't coordinated with the forward/reverse of BOTH thumb and fingers, then it does no good to continue to adjust.

If the thumb is too loose, don't plug and redrill; add a piece of tape. Everybody's thumb swells and shrinks at some time or other. The thumb hole should be drilled to be as large as your thumb ever gets. You put tape in the front or the back (smooth black or textured white) to adjust it so it's comfortably tight. For most people, in order NOT to have to put a death grip on it to hold the ball, the thumb hoel should be tight enough just to be able to get the thumb in. That's pretty tight.

Yes, also, left or right pitch comes into play, depending on your hand's physiology. You might need some one way or the other.

I second CharlesT: if you do not use it already, try to experiment with tape for fine-tuning. Can make a huge difference, and save money and time before trying some real different thumb pitches, just without a clue which direction might work well.
