Need help on a drilling layout for my Fear Factor.
« on: October 14, 2003, 10:51:40 PM »
I just got my Fear Factor 15lbs.,3.36 oz & 2.5-3 inches pin & I can't make up my mind on what's the best layout drilling should I use for this ball. My ball speed is about 17 - 19mph with medium revs. I'm more of a power stroker. I'll be using this ball on the lane with lots of carrydown & spotty heads(sometimes dry & sometimes oily heads). With my speed,if I use a layout that goes long, usually it passes the breakpoint & just goes straight & sometimes hits flat esp. if the lane has a lot of carrydown. If you have this ball, what do you prefer of a layout on this one, 10:30(4 1/4 x 3) , label leverage (3 3/8 x 5)  or Stacked leverage (3 3/8 x 3/38) layout? Any suggestions aside from what I pointed out will be much appreciated esp. coming from any storm staff from this forum.

Thanks,
Triple X

It would be better if you had a ball with lower top weight, but...

With your higher ball speed and low track, you are going to want something that revs early but still has a chance in the carrydown.  I'd put the pin at 3" from your PAP (probably just below your ring finger) and swing the CG out so that the MB (RAD) is on your perpendicular axis line.  You will need a good sized weight hole to make the ball legal.  Throw it in practice a few times to get a general feel for the reaction.  Put the weighthole on the PAP to smooth the reaction, or up to 3 3/8" away from the PAP for more flare and hook.
