Title: Need to know somthing from those that Drill balls
Post by: Rabiddog135 on October 10, 2006, 10:37:42 AM
I just picked up a 16 pound Lane1  Black Rasberry
the current span on the ball is 4 3/8 middle finger and 4 1/2 ring finger measuring from the front edges of finger holes and thumb hole

My span that is on most of my equipment is
4 11/16 Middle finger and 4 13/16 Ring finger

My old span was which I still have on my Tsunami 4 1/2 and 4 5/8

What I need to know is this. The Rasberry has a 1 1/4 thumb slug  would it be possible to have a 1 3/8 thumb slug installed and achive a span of
4 1/2 and 4 5/8 without plugging the old thumb hole, and moving it.
thanks in advance

Not enough information... pitches least of all... cut to cut length or current slug size might be more helpful...

J Mac the slug that is currently in the Rasberry I believe is a 1 1/4 I am not real sure of the pitches in the thumb or fingers I believe the guy I got the ball from told me he used 3/8 reverse in thumb but not sure of anything else

all I want to do is reslug if possible and drill to a
span of 4 1/2 and 4 5/8 and 5/8 reverse pitch in the thumb so I can throw the ball to see if I really want to keep it or not I am not worried about the finger pitches yet until I throw it a few times to see if I like it then I will have everything done properly

I assume you drill out a solid slug. What size thumb hole do you use? Do you use a lot of bevel? Is the insert in the ball now a 1 1/8 or 1 1/4? I think with all best possible you can pick up about 1/8 + if you don't hog bevel.
Good luck!

take it to a quality shop and have the double slug it.

I've picked up an 1/8" or more before doing this but if the pitches cross it might drill weird depending on the press. I've also poured plug in the existing thumb slug hole so the bit doesn't want to travel down the path of the old hole which seems to work better. Fill it to about 1/4" from the top. Don't need to bother trimming or anything. Kind of a short cut though IMO.
