Here's a drilling I haven't heard of before...
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:16:04 AM »
Talking to a friend of mine last night at league and this drilling came up:

On a PAP of 4.5 over, he had a ball (Brunswick Sidewinder, I think) with a 1-2 pin.

* Pin was drilled out by the middle finger,
* CG was mostly drilled out by the ring finger. No weight hole (which leads me to think the ball wouldn't pass statics, but that's a different subject).

Now what would this drilling most likely do in terms of reaction?

i would say it went long seen a black widow pearl drilled kinda this way and it had like 4 oz. of finger weight but if it had very little to begin with like a x out and the fingers were drilled deep it may pass, that being said the widow the guy was using did pretty much nothing for him he didn't have the revs to make it move

its a generic 0* drilling, used to really smooth out down lane reaction.

There used to be a poster on here named BullRed. He would always talk about the smoothness of a "barbell" drilling.

I have two balls drilled barbell. One on a Scout Reactive pearl, and the other on a Raspberry Ninja RPM.

The Scout is about 2.5" pin. The Ninja is a 3" pin.

The Scout is the epitomy of a smooth rolling ball, regardless of conditions, it is just smooth.

The Ninja on the other hand is a little more dynamic. It's smooth but very strong at the pindeck. I mean it rolls smooth but hits like an explosion!
Also, if I come up the back of the ball, there is very little flare, but the hit still remains. If I come around the ball, whoooooo......nelly, the ball takes off and can be uncontrollable.

Now the difference between my balls and the one you mentioned, is, my pins are in my palm, with cg projected parallel to the right. I'm a righty.

Though BullRed called this a "barbell" drilling, it is probably just a modified Rico drilling in retrospect.

Well, I may just be in the process of inventing something. (g)

I ordered an AMF Heist with a 1.5-inch pin and 1.3-oz. top weight last night, which I figured would give me the best chance to stay legal after drilling without having to worry about legalities.

Then I talked to him again and found out I'd misunderstood him. He does not have this drill on a ball. His CG isn't drilled out by the ring finger. Long story, but he did a bad job describing it.

So I'm going to try it on the Heist and see what happens.
