Novice driller needs layout help with a Fury Pearl
« on: October 24, 2008, 11:34:33 PM »
The FP I bought has a less than 2" pin.  Thinking that it would be best to go with the drilling that Brunswick suggests for a short pin, I chose the maximum hook and arc layout pattern. (see link)

http://www.brunswickbowling.com/uploads/L7/cc/L7ccVnpAUP6FRGMWVu0Bbw/Advanced-Drilling-Instructions---Symmetric--Asymmetric---December07.pdf

That pattern indicates 4 1/2" between pin and PAP with the pin under ring and the CG kicked out slightly.  As my PAP is 4 1/8" horizontal and 1/2" up, the layout ends up with the pin under middle if I keep the CG in the suggested range.

Is it better to have the pin the proper distance from PAP or to have the pin positioned properly in relation to the finger grips?

Thanks in advance for you suggestions.

Always use the PAP as primary reference. The finger holes as reference do not tell you much, the only "problem" sometimes is to place the pin and/or CG in a drill-safe position.

I think with your PAP the pin will end up under the bridge (medium PAP as reference) and the CG slightly to the right of the mid line, under the grip center with a 2" pin. If you want some (more) flip or later reaction, drill the thumb hole a bit deeper to reduce weight in that area.

Just my 2 cents, not an expert, but what I'd suggest

dizzy is dead on here....PAP to pin distance is important and then the rise from grip center determines over/under the fingers.
