Given a symmetric core ball, what is the difference in ball reaction between a "Pin on PAP" layout and a "Pin in the Track" layout?

Pin on PAP the weight block is laying down horizontally.

Pin in track the weight block is standing up vertically.

Both scenarios result in the core being in a stable position.

To go a little further, the pin on pap drilling is the lowest RG drilling possible. It will let the ball roll earlier than any other drilling. If you have severe wet/dry, this drilling would help to smooth out the line of demarcation between the "wet" and "dry" areas. A very smooth rolling type drill, for me at least.

The pin in the track also allows the core to be in a stable position, but provides the highest RG drilling possible. It will help the ball store energy much longer than a pin on pap drilling and provide a harder backend after the breakpoint.

If you have a ball with an RG max of 2.550 and an RG min of 2.500, the diff would be .050. The larger the difference from RG min to RG max, the higher initial flare potential the ball has in the first place. In reference to the given numbers, a pin on pap would have a drilled RG of 2.500, while the pin in track would have an RG of 2.550.

To find out how far to move the pin to effect a change in the RG number of any ball, measure from your pap to your track, then divide the RG diff by that distance and the answer is the distance you need to move the pin to achieve a change in RG rating. I will give an example.

Say you have a ball that has an RG diff of .050, that would be 50 points on a line. Then say it is 6 3/4 inches from your pap to your track. 6 3/4 divided by the 50 points is .135 inches. so, for every .135 inches you move the pin, you change the RG from its minimum of 2.500 to its maximum of 2.550, or vice versa by only one point at a time. A pin on pap would have a 2.500 RG while moving the pin towards the track by .135 inches would result in an RG of 2.501 and a move of 1.35 inches would result in an RG of 2.510.

Confusing, I know. Just think about it and you will see what I mean.

Just my personal experience, but I have trouble with carry on balls with the pin in the track. Lot of corners and weak back-row leaves for me with those layouts. And it tends to carry over from condition to condition, ball to ball.

I have a Specail agent drilled 6 x 4 Pin under middle finger with a flare reducing X hole, I use on our 40 foot house shot for some reason I get a great look. I dont put a ton on the ball i have a clean relase and this drlling seems to make the pins fly, 279 253 256 ( with opens ) last night 209 240 279 last week. =/
