Odd Pin Location?
« on: January 22, 2019, 04:57:49 PM »
I gave my friend a new Hammer Fierce Phobia that I won in a raffle last year.  I had it drilled pin up centered over the bridge, and threw maybe 5 frames with it.  My friends hand is larger than mine and his ball driller kept the same thumb location but moved the fingers up on each side of the pin, actually taking a very small section of the pin out for each finger.  I've never seen that before and was wondering what kind of reaction to expect and whether the driller was just lazy.  It seemed to roll ok and wasn't clipping any holes.

Thanks

It’ll be fine, as far as reaction goes. Drilling out the top of the weightblock just lowers the RG a little, which makes the ball a tad more “rolly”.

Problem may arise with the pin though. Oft times, a partially drilled pin will come loose, and might even come out of the ball.

If it does, just plug and redrill the finger holes and it’ll still be ok to use.

Had a Dynothane Wayne Webb RX with the pin there, loved it. Those pin placements used to be more common place when covers didn't crack as often; but now with the complexity of the cover materials, most companies ask to either drill pin out completely, or keep about an inch from any hole. A used ball with plug will not have a warranty anyway.
