Dry lane layout? 3rd game league
« on: January 25, 2019, 08:01:59 PM »
In the league I bowl on, 5 man format, shot holds up for 2 games great but the 3rd game they are hooking a ton. I am also bowling with a teammate who throws urethane :( I have several good candidates that I believe may fit the bill for this. And before I get flamed yes I have moved in deeper. Last night was playing between 3rd and 4th arrow. Primary weapon is an original Yeah Baby drilled 50 x4x40. The below candidates( All are 16 lbs) for the 3rd game are:

1) An old Roto Grip Shatter treated with a slip agent then polished drilled 50 x 3 1/2 x 75.
2) An old Columbia 300 Quake Pearl drilled lable, pin by fingers cg in palm.
3) Next is a Columbia 300 Messenger Ti Messenger Pearl( Gold and Black)  treated with a slip agent then polished drilled lable, pin by fingers cg in palm. Pin is about 1-2"from PAP
4) Roto Grip Unhinged drilled lable, pin by fingers cg in palm.
5) Roto Grip Ultra Sonic drilled 65 x 4 1/2 x 45.

Thank you in advance.

A couple of questions.

1. What happens if you keep moving your feet left?

2. Does the ball get thru the fronts ok but just reads the midlane too early?

3 What kind of look are you looking for? Smooth? Long then jerk left? Long and minimal reaction?

Doom,

Even when I move left there is not enough oil to get the ball to hold pocket. Usually goes high . Gets through the fronts and hooks to much in the mid-lane. Looking for a smooth reaction.

Northface28,

I will check when I am out there tomorrow.

Thank you

Personally, I'd go with the short pin messenger. Cover will still respond off the friction, but the core will be laid down

I generally dont like dry lane balls for moving deeper inside, but i have a shiny After Dark solid worked pretty well in an older anvil lane house from 15 board. Cherry Vibe would be another option.   It also depends on what you are trying to do when you move inside 15 board. How far right is your desired break point.

Thank you for all the input. I went to practice some today. Lanes dried out as usual. One thing I forgot to mention is I use an adjustable wrist brace. When they started to really burn, after moving left with mixed results I decided to try moving right without the brace and was able to use a older c-300 Boss pearl with good results. :)

Not a suggestion, but I thought someone had resurrected a very old topic at first.  Nothing wrong with your equipment, but I haven't heard those names in a while.

I LOVE my pin down Storm Ride @2000 Abralon for the 3rd set.  Very smooth and has a nice arc versus snap, very controllable.

Low pins for the house shot burn. I have a tour iq pin under mid finger with a gd cg kick. Smooth, slow off the spot. I can just keep chasing the oil line left all night long. You can go with an 80x5 1/2x80  dual layout low pin. No polish. 3000 abralon wet sand. Length with control. Short pins will work also as doom likes. May need some hand to get it to hit, carry though.
