Odd question about my thumb
« on: October 10, 2011, 12:09:17 PM »
Ok so this may seem a little weird but I feel like this may potentially have an effect on how I need my equipment drilled. My thumb is weird, and when I say it's weird, I mean I've never known anybody else with this 'issue' I suppose you'd call it. My thumb knuckle, closest to the palm, doesn't really bend. If you are trying to picture exactly what I'm talking about, try to bend your thumb as far towards your pinky/palm as you can. Does your thumb knuckle bend? Because mine doesn't.

See here: http://i.imgur.com/0UrEb.jpg

My question is, do you think this would affect how I'd need my stuff drilled at all? It seems like being able to bend this knuckle would allow most people to lay their palm flat on the ball with their fingers in it, but I can't do that. Any input?

Are you having problems with blisters or pain with your thumb now, do you exit the ball clean ?

I am trying very hard to not grip the ball. It's been a problem for a while for me. I feel like I do come out clean if I really try to hold my thumb as straight as possible but it just doesn't feel natural. I feel like if nothing else, an oval thumb might help. But pitch changes are a possibility. I'm no expert so I'm open to suggestions.

Honestly don't know. I need to talk to my current driller. I think I may start with trying an oval first.

Yeah I dont know your driller make sure he know his stuff, I would recommend seeing a coach, possibly, I see Mike Shady. Also, Id only change one thing at a time, or you could end up worse then you are now. Jus sayin.
