Offset thumb holes?
« on: March 13, 2004, 04:22:25 AM »
Does anyone here have any info they can give me on offset thumb holes?

The last few months my balls dont feel as comfortable as they used too and my wrist is often sore during the 3rd game and after bowling. I've noticed that the ball feels much lighter/comfortable when I dont use my thumb and rest the ball in my palm.

The thing is, I dont really want to start bowling 2 handed/no thumbing.

Im gonna speak to my driller soon but its an hour drive and I wont have time for a week or 2. So i'd like to arm myself with any info that would be of any use for once I eventually get there.

Thanks

If it is what I am thinking that you mean I have my stuff drilled that way. The person who drills my stuff use to work for Brunswick at Nationals. It is what he calls a CLT lay out. If you look at most "common" drilled balls the thumb hole is about in the center if the finger holes when you come straight down. With the CLT lay out it is a more natural fit with the shape of your hand. You don't have to do any twisting or wrenching or anything like that to get in the ball. All you do is put your fingers in the ball and the thumb slides right in. It is so nice and comfortable and easy to come out of. Since I have started to use this it is hard to go back to any other stuff that does not have this. If you have any further questions on it if you are going to nationals check with any of the booths out there.

Yes it is CLT for the most part there were several threads
on here reguarding it.

Several of my balls are drilled like this.

Not for sure how it is figured out at all for the CLT lay out. When I was first measured for that lay out it was measured at 15 degrees. For the most part I would have to say that yes it is below the middle finger. I would get the info from livespive since he will know more about it then I will.

I don't think that I get more revs on the ball however I come out of the ball cleaner and more consistent with the equipment drilled with the CLT layout. Some people may get more revs. For me like I said I don't but it is a much more relaxed fit in the ball. I think that once more and more people have the opportunity to try it the more it will catch on all over.
