Old time driller! What does he know!
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:39:21 PM »
Got an old beat up Total NV!  2 righty drills already!

After drilling lefty and Before putting a weighthole in it I threw it to see the reaction.  Great reaction long and Strong but my driller said "illegal side weight"!

We put a legalizng weighthole on my VAL and went to throw it again and thud!  Dead, flat 7 after flat 7!  We noodled together and then we realized that because of the previous drillings maybe a chance for no top weight or even some bottom weight(not for this shot!).

We were right!  Filled the hole on VAL and drilled instead a hole 2 1/2 inches past my VAL.  This many time regional champ then said I even for more backend "angled the hole away from the grip center"!

The next game after  taking a little surface off due to over under went on my second 9 stike game in the last two weeks!  Not bad, it has to be the ball.

What is the matter with this ball driller above to think that Statics matter?

By the way the reaction is long and very very strong at the back with lots of energy retention and all sorts of violently flying pins!

Regards,

SO,

 Is this PRAISE?

 Is this a COMPLAINT? or

 Is this a FIGJAM?

Kind of hard to decipher this unguided rant.

Please enlighten us which it is so that we can blow it out of the water.

Bowling Pariah eh?  Following me around on the forum boards and from Texas?

There was another Blank on here from Texas but he moved to Canada...

Wonder if they ashcanned him from there?

On to my driller.  I didn't correctly state what this multitime regional champ said about the angled weighthole.

He correctly stated,  "i'm not going to go 9 inches out from your grip center because you may flare over it.  But I'm going to angle it to raise top weight!"

Statics matter?

Ashcan, er Pariah....from Texas right?

You are a multime regional champ right?

PS Regarding my driller some of these old time guys are smart aren't they?

You do realize that a weight hole alters more than just the static weights, right? The RG and diff are both affected as well, which have an even bigger effect on ball reaction. The first x-hole you tried sounds like one that reduces flare and smoothes out ball reaction.

It was likely more the change in dynamics due to the core modification (raising the RG) that caused the change. Regardless of why he did it, it worked.

That's really what matters most.

Those old time drillers, they just make it work right?

As to nicking core I'll take a look at this deep smallish diameter hole and see how much core I think nicked.

I am not knocking the effect of the surface dulling to smooth the over undr it had after this hole was initially added.  The dulling allowed me almost the same amount of push as I moved deeper into the crown.

What was the location on your VAL of the weight hole?

You can angle the weight hole any way you want but the angle does not benefit any increase in dynamics to the ball from drilling it with no pitch. Depth is more effective then angle or diameter.

"Get out of bowling what you want because that is all there is."

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.
