DBA plug color problem
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:37:40 AM »
Question for you drillers out there.  When I took over this proshop, there was a supply of DBA plug color and compound/hardener.  My preferred plugging material is techline.

Anyway, every time I use the red color it turns nearly purple, more reddish purple.  I assume most of you remember the red Ebonite Predator...  I poured in some plug color that was basically pink, it turned a dark reddish purple.  I've tried everything i can think of.

I tried a new bottle of red, lighting the color, etc...

Any suggestions?

DBA coloring can be tricky to work with because it is more of a tint than a true colorant. It works very well when used with pearl (paste or powder). Try using white as a base and working the color up. I usually have 4 differennt color kits on hand, depending on the color I have to match. I personally have found the kit I use the most is Wizcolors by Ultimate, they seem to have virtually no color change in most plug, except their own...go figure.

Hope this helps!!

I've tried that and it still isn't working correctly.  I think I'll just order some techline stuff.

This is one reason I have stopped using DBA products...although DBA no longer exists so now it's called Brunswick ball plug :-)

I used Techline for a long time but have really fallen in love with Powerhouse Everclear. I have never gotten such true color in plug as I do with the Everclear plug. I even still use my DBA and Techline tints and get great results!
