Stiffest thumb I've ever seen
« on: December 26, 2006, 01:41:35 PM »
I measured a young girl today that had the stiffesst thumb I've ever seen.  It was like the joint at the base of the thumb wasn't even there and the thumb joined right to the wrist!  I checked her left thumb also and it was the same way.  Her finger joints were normal.  We used a conventional grip, about 3 1/2" spans and I gave her 1/4 reverse and 1/8 left.  She threw it well and was pleased, so all worked out well.  Have any of you seen a thumb that stiff?  --  JohnP

I had an older gentleman similar to this. The thing is, you almost have to guess and rely on prior experience to get it close because there is nothing textbook about it.
