Tame Layouts
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:37:55 PM »
I have so much revs that i dont know what to do with them. Im looking at drilling balls to be softer reacting because i am guaranteed to make the ball hook. Any ideas on softer set-ups???

I have the same problem. I have started using 6" pin to pap,Pin 4" above midline with a 135 degree backend. Mind you the backend has to be dry to help the ball hit but it's much easier to get down the lane.

I would recommend Medium RG Medium Dif balls Out of box with 1-2inch pins and low top wieghts.  When laying out the bowling ball, keep pin no further than 2 1/2 to 3 inchs from PAP.  The KEY is placing the cg zero degrees with Axis point.  This type of reaction should read the midlane and just 'face up' in the back of the pattern, without over reaction off of friction.

Also, a Trick layout used by Tommy Jones frequently the past two seasons on One series balls should seem to work with a ball with a high Mass bias rating!  You can find these layouts at www.ebonite.com

Thanks for all the help guys. I am now looking in the more middle line for a ball instead of these super hook balls i have been buying. Thinking of trying a somewhat trick layout on a ball soon. Thanks again!

Take a pin-in ball and put the pin at 5.5" from PAP, under the fingers. For a high track player, it should end up under the bridge or even under the middle finger. CG swung out at 45-60° from PAP, so that it ends up in your palm. Should not need a balance hole.

With a "harmless" ball like a Power Groove, Tropical Storm or a Tornado, this should deliver a very tame and controllable, rather arcing ball reaction which will hardly overreact, even on dry/late lanes.

Pin underneath your bridge that should make the ball mellow enough to handle. Or find an old Urethane ball to throw when they get all dried up that is my solution when I run into the problem
