PAP question...
« on: January 14, 2007, 11:10:07 AM »
I was having trouble with skid/flip balls not getting the length I want. I throw it about 20MPH, so I wasn't understanding the problem. I recently found that my PAP was about 3" right, when I noticed that most people's was about 5". Is this right?

Also, to drill a ball 5x4, like I would like, I would have to drill the pin to the left of the fingers. Is this correct? It seems like that may cause some problems.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Bigearv14,
I too track low, around 3-1/2 to 4 over depending on the ball. Don’t be afraid of a negative PIN placement to get the length you need. Have the ball laid out as per your pap location and the drilling will work fine.

Most of my equipment is laid out with the PIN either above the middle finger or below the middle finger and some on the centerline below the fingers.

As lanemaster alluded to, you do need to be careful with negative pins below the middle finger on some balls. I had a Ebonite Killer Instinct Pearl that flared over the thumb hole with a low pin negative drill. I haven’t had that trouble with my other balls but its something to consider. Talk to your driller, sometimes a weight hole is all you need to pull the track flair away from the fingers or thumb.

Thanks. I have two balls drilled pin below middle and they roll fine...better than most I have.

I do have a problem with a couple of balls. They are drilled pin over ring and they track over x-holes to the right of my PAP. I will probably plug the hole and move it down to fix this.

Twenty miles an hour & you have trouble getting length?

well, based on my newly discovered PAP, i was drilling my balls somewhere between 2x2 and 3x3...neither are made for length, to my understanding at least...

Oh, I see. I would be careful of the coverstock you select to use 5x4 with that ball speed unless you have a lot of hand. You could find yourself throwing it right past the breakpoint. But like I said, if you have a lot of hand, disreguard what I said.
