Ok I just last night went to my bowling ally to find my PAP, they normally don't really mess with PAP because they don't belive it means that much, and we don't see alot of really good bowlers down in our town. They used a different way then I have seen done, they used my spare ball, and was putting tape on it to where when I roll it the tape would stay in the same spot on the first part of the lane. Is this a good way to find someones PAP, and i am a high tracker, on pins below ring fingers I tend to roll over a thumb hole or finger hole. IS a PAP of 6 1/8 by 1/8 up a normal PAP for a high tracker, just to see if they were right on finding it, or very close? Thanks

a) Yes, this is a hands-on practice to find the PAP.
b) A PAP of 6 1/8 by 1/8 up is, as far as I can tell, a very upright axis position, but if you are a high tracker, this sound correct or at least plausible. I have never seen somebody with such a PAP, though. Where are the tracks located on your ball? Could it be that they are close by your fingers and a little further away from yout thumb hole?

In fact, when the PAP is located by any other method, the location should be marked with white tape so the ball can be thrown to confirm the location is correct as your driller did in the first place.  Other methods are easier, not more accurate.

Dizzy -- with a +1/8 vertical PAP component, the initial track ring will be almost parallel to the grip centerline, but slightly further from the centerline at the fingers than at the thumb.  --  JohnP

Mine's about 6" over and I track at the finger and thumb holes, so 6 1/8" is a fine PAP for a real high tracker.

Sounds reasonable to me.  As John said... may not have been the easiest method for finding your PAP, but usually quite accurate.  Your PAP is quite possible.. like you said, a high-track bowler.  Being so, I would guess that many pin under fingers layouts would clip your finger holes...  probably going to be limited to Flare-Safe pin locations on to above a line from your pin to PAP.    
I drilled up a Sahara for a local guy with similar stats using the MoRich control layout (2.5" pin to PAP and 6 1/2" mb to PAP), and he absolutely loves it... might be something to look into.

Now the other issue is the shop you are using.  If they believe that PAP and little to no effect on layouts, then you probably should be looking for a new place!

I think this was a typo.  The pin should be located above and/or to the right of a line from the PAP to the ring finger hole.  --  JohnP

I am a no thumber and just recently had to figure out my new PAP because of this. I clip the edge of the thumb hole and middle finger with any laout. The reason, I have a full diameter track. It rolls over the full circumference of the ball on the first rings. My stats are 5-3/4"> .375^. I have two balls drilled with one pin up and one down and they both clip on the first ring.

I could see where a more normal release with a smaller track diameter could get farther right than what I am. I was trying to contemplate how my PAP could get that far over. Now I understand.
