what would happen if you drilled a ball:

MB____CG____Pin

Or, if you put pin low, CG in palm, and MB high and left of ring finger (for right handers)

What kind of reaction would you get and what kind of weight holes would you need to make this legal?

Drilling number 1 is a variation on a PIn Axis drilling. Granted there would need to be a large weight hole, the reaction would be very slight and weak. Good for light oil and short patterns.

Drilling number 2 is a Left handed Full Roller release. I believe that if a righty normal tracker drilled this ball they would track over all the finger holes.

I'd also guess that you risk negative flare with both for a high tracker righty. But reactions like a pin axis drilling (smooth curve) were also my firts guess.

I don't know if you'd need a really large weight hole in the first case.  The CG is above the fingers, which would give you plenty of finger weight.  If the starting top wasn't too bad, you might be able to just drill the fingers deeper.  If that's not sufficient, add a weight hole just above the bridge.  It's an odd place for a weight hole, but shouldn't be tracked over unless you have a stupidly high flaring ball.

I had a ball (no marked MB on it) drilled pretty much like your second diagram - pin by thumb, CG near grip center.  Very smooth on the back, sort of a control drilling.  At the time I was a very high tracker but had no problems w/ thumping holes.  Nor did I need a wt. hole (and I don't remember what top wt the ball had.)

As far as I understand the drillings (which is very little!):

I would guess with the second diagram, you are basically putting the pin to PAP a fairly short distance.  With the pin being below the fingers that would promote earlier roll.

CG in palm, you wouldn't expect the need for a weight hole.  

I don't know what, if any, affect the MB being to the left and above the fingers would be.  I guess it would depend on the strength of the MB??

How would you describe that drilling?  Something like 1 or 2 x 6 or 7 - it looks like you would have a fairly long distance from PAP to MB.
