I recently got a Storm Ride for drier lanes which I'm really loving. I had it drilled with the pin next to the ring finger with the CG towards the grip center. Basically like an old school label leverage layout. I noticed that the pin was partially drilled out and is actually visible inside the ring finger hole. Is this going to be a potential problem? I remember reading somewhere that not drilling out the pin completely can lead to cracking.

It can potentially crack there, but that doesn't mean it definitely will crack because of that. If it does, I think that Storm may not warranty the ball. Most companies like the pin to be 1/2 - 1" away from any hole or actually completely in a hole. I'm kind of surprised a driller would do that. It would hardly make any ball reaction difference to put the pin in the ring finger hole.

I would have put the pin in the ring finger.  You have two choices, either fix it or use it and it may not crack.  To fix it, drill the pin out to a depth of about 1", plug the hole that's left, then redrill the finger hole.  --  JohnP

A partially drilled out pin is where you see part of the pin at the surface of the ball next to the hole.

If your looking down inside the hole and see the whole pin down at the bottom of the hole, then the pin is "drilled out" so shouldn't be a problem.

I don't consider the pin to be drilled out unless it is totally gone.  You're right that seeing the pin down inside the hole isn't a problem.  I don't use a layout with the pin closer to a hole than 3/4" unless I drill it completely out.  --  JohnP

I tried to sell USED two different balls where the PSO drilled out the pin in the ring finger.  None of the buyers who wanted the balls would buy them because they could not see the location of the pin on the surface of the ball.  When I showed them the pin down in the hole, they freaked out thinking the ball was totally messed up when it was drilled.
When my PSO tried to put the pin in the ring finger on a third ball, I told him NO! These balls are to expensive to be stuck with them, when I done with them.

Those people are not well educated w/r to bowling. It is not something to fear.

I have many of my balls drilled with pin in middle or ring finger and have never had any buyer indicate his displeasure with that drilling. Personally I think it is quite versatile. Sorry you now feel you have to avoid it.

 I even had a ball like that plugged and redrilled. My driller put a colored plug in the plug material in the hole so that I'd know where the pin had been.

Just to clear up any confusion, I'll try to give a better description. The pin is about 1/8" to the right of my ring finger hole. When looking down inside the hole you can see the left side of the pin which has been partially drilled in to. In all fairness, I did ask the driller to place the pin next to the ring finger, but thought he'd leave enough room as to not hit it with the drill bit. Oh, well, lesson learned I guess.
