Particle Pearl Drill
« on: June 16, 2003, 06:58:02 PM »
Looking for arc, strong but readable/controllable arc.  Do I look at a 4x2 type drill, or, do I get a longer pin-out ball, say 4 inches (high tracker)and go with a lower pin label drill, say 2.5x5 ?

Any and all suggestions welcome, thanks!

If I may add an opinion, I think your core angle should also reflect the polish status on the ball AND the oil pattern on which you want to use it. The higher the polish, generally speaking the safer it is to use more of an angle, like 4x2 or so. With a dull particle pearl, you may want to go no further than a 4x3 UNLESS you are going to use it on heavy oil.

These days particle pearls can come polished, highly polished, matte or dull. All 4 require their own separate processes and considerations.

That's a decent polish, so if the core & cover is not too strong, a 4x3 or a 4x2 (that kind of angle) should be fine. (Since it's medium oil, I wouldn't go to a 4x1 or a 3x0, unless it was a very mild cover and core, and they don't make particle pearls with mild covers, to my mind.) A medium strength ball should work fairly well.
