I have recently changed to a no thumb release which has drastically changed my track. The track starts at the middle finger and is about 1.5 inches from the thumb hole. What would be a good aggressive drill with this track? I have been putting pin over or next to fingers but I thump the finger holes a bit. Also these drillings work great on medium lanes but provide too much length on a longer pattern with carrydown. Where should I put the pin and cg to move the track off of the finger holes and start the ball a bit earlier?

The best drill I can recommend is one with a thumbhole.

I've bowled with a thumbhole for 20 years. I topped out at 212 with no 300 or 800. I manage to shoot 3 to 6 700+ series a year. I never had all that many revs. I always had to play straighter unless the lanes were dry. I used to find dry everywhere. Now in leages and tournaments the shot always starts out heavier longer oil. My ball just plain don't hook. To shoot high scores on this condition takes a lot of accuracy and consistency. It has stoped being fun. It now feels like work.
With the no-thumb release I can stand left and fling right and watch the ball come back as long as there are some backends. I still have to pick up a ball for carrydown. My average is down but I'm having a lot more fun. We'll see if I can reach or surpass my previous best. Hell, maybe I'll switch back after awhile.
Time will tell.

For me, my best score always come when I match up well with the condition and have a lot of area and carry. I am not quite there yet with consistancy, but when I'm even close with a no thumb release I have miss room and the ball shatters the pins. Once I find a line, I now have area and carry on most conditions. Right now I'm getting lost when the lanes transition. I have to get better at reading the lane, but once I figure that out, I think the no thumb has more high game potential than my old style. There may just be a lot of 210/258/165 nights until I get the hang of it.

Tried an Elixir Pearl with little success. Drilled Pin next to ring with the cg kicked out at 45 degrees. Trying an Adrenaline next..

I think the next step up in hook and area from no thumb is two hand!!!

You have to go in to some gyrations but what area!!!!

Like a two hand backend, one can adjust at the last second from a pull or a push by cutting down on the hook or increasing.

We've got a kid down here who has been creaming the adults for several years with this wide area method.

He walks a little cockide now but hey if you bowl better?

How was your thumb hole drilled before?
Was is the T grip or was it offset ie CLT.

IF it was just a T grip I would look at
Doing a CLT with 1/16" Foward pitch on your fingers
if you are trying to get more revs. You thumb leaves the
ball quicker, and your fingers stay in the ball a little longer.
I tried this on my viper, and I love it. I think I just need
widen my span by about a 1/16 of an inch or so.

But I guess the most important thing is that you are having fun now.

I've played around with my grip for years, but due to an inflexible hand my thumb always exits late making it hard to generate more turn. When I tried for more turn I just got more speed.

I have a friend that i bowl with and he uses 2 fingers.
He can bowl with a thumb, But he has shot 845 this year and has been
carring a 240 avg. for 10 weeks in this league.
I have drilled balls for him and the best drill patteren
is about 1 inch from ring finger, with cg somewhere
under fingers.

the ball does track like a full roller
but it really doesn't matter if you can make it work.
BTW he uses 2 hands, Throws the ball around 20mph and 500 revs.
he currently using the New Hammer equipment and V2 particle
they both destroy the pins.

My average is down around 20 pins, but let me tell you I'm really having fun!
I keep bowling 160/220/190 sets. I can't seem to master the breakpoint yet. Spares are also an adventure right now. I was always a streaky spare shooter so I guess some things never change

I think I'll get to where I was and have a lot of fun along the way. I had kind of topped out my ability level with my old style and was becomming frustrated with my limitations. Why bowl if it isn't fun?

PS somehow at age 4 my son took this up!
He had as much turn on the ball and so much speed for his age I couldn't believ it. Shot 152 with plastic no bumpers at 4! Went to Yabba age 5. The coach wouldn't let him do it. I asked if they could leave him alone, no!

Anyway he switched to one hand and has never thrown as powerful a ball since.

The other day he says (age 10), Dad watch this two hand throw!!!!! Awesome!!!

Again you might end up walking a little askew!
PPS fellow I referenced above, when age 14 refused to go Yabba and went a bunch of scratch and handicap tournaments. I would guess between 13 and 14 he made close to $100,000 dollars. 700s and higher often. Only threw one handed at 10 pin spares! Walks a little funny though now! Foul mouthed trash talking little SOB too!
