Pin Axis drilling on an EPX T1, 2 inch pin?
« on: May 18, 2006, 07:22:35 AM »
I have a couple of undrilled EPX's. I have one drilled 4-1/2 x 4 (3" pin).
Ball is extremely strong. Revs very strong in mdilane, is not really arcy, but fairly angular.

I'd like to try a Pin on Axis drilling, to try to get the ball into a reving arcing roll from outside (5 board). Ball has 2" pin, 2-/34 TW. Will this ball work with this drilling?

Anyone try this drilling on an EPX?

you would be better off putting the pin under the bridge and vcg @45 deg.

pin on axis. that ball would roll out at the arrows and hit like a wet turd. why waste that kind of money.

I bought them for $75, each. So it wouldn't cost me a lot.
It would be more of an experiment...
Do you think the ball would roll out?

I've used the EPX I have drilled on light patterns without it burning up.
Ball is really strong, and flares more than any ball, I've ever owned.

well if cost is not an issue feel free to experiment. you will be in a minoroty that uses pin axis so it would be good to hear what happnes.

I would use the longest pin ball I could find for the experiment.  A 2 inch pin to PAP will require a sizeable balance hole.  If you do go that way, put the hole on the axis.  It won't hurt to drill out the pin.  Probably not a bad ball to experiment on.  You will be lucky if it doesn't fall apart in 50-80 games anyway.

Bob,

So a longer pin distance is better when using the drilling?
I was wondering if I'd need to drill a balance hole.

I'm waiting for my 1st EXP to fall apart...
50-80 games wouldn't be to bad.

It'll probably happen after I throw the front 10.

My driller's out of town for a week, so I have some time to think about it.
I will probably try it...I'm curious to see how it will work on my Summer Sport Shot league.
I will post the outcome.

Why not try pin 1 1/2 inches from axis? This will give you close to the same characteristics as pin axis, with a bit more hitting power at the pins. I think you would like this drilling much better, as it is not quite so specialized.

stanski,

Maybe I'll drill the 3rd EPX like that...

Would there be much difference in the reaction between the 2 balls (pin axis & 1-1/2 from axis)?

I didn't really mean more hit, I really meant to say a little more pop at the breakpoint. I think there wouldn't be much difference between pin axis and pin 1-2 inches from axis, but i am just saying that i think you'd prefer it. I am betting that the one you drill pin axis will not roll in a manner you 1. are used to or 2. like. I haven't many people drill pin axis that really find the ball is used more than once or twice a year (and usually in the wrong situation).

Sorry what i meant is The EPX that is angular in the backend handle almost the same amount of oil as the others you have drilled?

STORM JUST HAS DEVASTATING RESULTS!!!

I only have one EPX drilled right now.
I have 2 undrilled EPX sitting here.

I bowl a Sport League, and thought it might fit in my arsenal for that condition, and some different tournaments I bowl. It would give me a different look at the pocket.

I thought it was stated that the EPX rolled best with stronger pin positions (near leverage)...  It may be an interesting experiment to try a weaker pin position (such as axis), but if I had to guess, I would say it would be very condition specific...
