I have always had my stuff drilled pin above ring finger or bridge, now I would like to have pin below type layout. I was told to get new ball with a 1-2 inch pin. My question is (forgot to ask my driller - on vacation), what top weight should I request, or does it matter?

Talk to your driller. I always like to have a 3 inch pin with around 3 - 3 1/2 top weight. What this means is that you can drill you balance hole low and deep.

By tendency, a pin with a lower pin will react more smoothly and roll earlier than the same piece with a high pin - good for balls for long/heavy oil. The difference will only be recognizable in direct comparison, though, you will get bigger reaction differences through surface prep changes.
A low TW will smooth out the reaction even more, but is of less relevance, since a ball driller can adjust this easily thorugh deeper finger or thumb holes.
Only thing to check: if you have a high track, pin-under-fingers setups can have the ball flare and track across the finger holes.

I disagree with the notion of getting a 1-2 inch pin. Get one that is 3-4 and it will give your ball driller more options. THe weight hole is just as important to ball motion as the pin placement. If you can only put a weight hole above your midline you are seriously limiting what sort of reaction you can create. I also agree with dizzy's post about making sure you aren't too high of a track to put the pin down. If you are it will cause the ball to flare and bowtie at the middle finger and your ball will react horribly.
