A layout all bowlers should know about!
« on: August 19, 2007, 01:10:44 AM »
Has any of you guys seen the site www.Rollrite.co.uk? Well I seen it on a topic here and looked at some of the stuff on Marios Secrets... The 315* layout looked interesting so I decided to punch up a BWP with this layout. I was hoping for the length but with this layout to give me smooth backend. My main reason was hoping I could play a down and in line with this ball and like it said on the site if you miss hit it or hit it to much it was forgiving in ball reaction vs other type layouts.... Well this ball hooks way to much for a down and in look. Its smooth dont get me wrong but hell it worked best playing the 4th arrow! I noticed if I take my hand out of it, it doesnt seem to want to finish nor hit hard on top of that. Guys with a high degree of axis tilt may have success with this layout but for the more forward roll I'm not so sure. Also note...My track was 4 to 5 inches away from my middle finger on my other balls and on this BWP it has changed to allmost clipping the middle finger. Its not to the point i need to fix something or not use it but just beware if your track is already close to ur holes not sure what the results of this layout would be...

heres how it looked....

Has anyone else tried this layout and whats ur thoughts? I wish more people was open minded about layouts and if you have some experiments likes this to share please do so. Thanks John

isnt that the trick layout they used on the no mercy beatn? supposedly turned tbe beatn into a big arc rather then the long and hard.

I tried the 315 about 5 years ago. I rolled directly over the center of my thumb. Never used it again.

In your drawing, where is the pin?

In the 315 degree instructions, the pin-CG distance should be 0-1", and the pin/CG cluster should be relatively high to promote length (I believe), as this is not a go-long type of drill. I believe the pin/CG should be around the height of the ring finger or even higher. The lower the pin (id yours near the grip center?), the earlier the ball will want to roll.

It's a gimmick layout.....

Have fun matching up with it.

If you throw it on the wrong condition you can leave 5/7/10s w/the best of them.

speedyosh the 315 is intended for asymmetrical balls.  If there is no built in PSA the layout loses part of its effect.

I understand you may have preferred it....but the true 315 layout is for asymmetrical balls...it makes the ball very continuous, not the hook/stop reaction you described.

I have tried this layout on a couple different balls an Russell is correct in saying that it is continuous, I believe it is said that it helps control mis-hits on the release when you need to play a tighter shot (inside angles).
