Short Pin Layouts?
« on: November 11, 2008, 01:08:17 AM »
Are there any limitations to what layouts you can use with a 1-2" pin ball. Does a short pin ball have any disadvantages to a longer pin counterpart? Thanks for the help.
No, you may not handle my balls. Well....maybe just for a little while.

The only limit is that in most cases the pin ends up closer to the grip center, under the fingers by tendency - good for rolly/smoother reactions, but not limited to this. In some cases the small pin distance even comes handy for certain layouts, like a 315° setup.

It is not "worse" than a long pin, you just have different options.

Absolutely zero limitations in terms of reaction.  The only difficulties you and your driller might have is getting the static weights legal.

Put the pin where you want it in terms of reaction, flippy, strong, smooth, early, up, down, side to side.  Add a weight hole accordingly for statics.

Pin distance does not determine ball reaction. Pin placement, surface, and weight hole.  I can get a 0" pin to flip and a 6" pin to roll.  Sometimes it's hard with higher top weights but in most cases doable.

try pin axis drilling, another options for stable hook drilling.
