A shorter pin will THEORETICALLY stabilize sooner and flare less than a long pin-to-CG distance. As to whether you will be able to see it or not depends on how much inherent flare potential the ball has, how big the difference in pin distance there is, how the ball is thrown, on what oil pattern it is thrown and how sharp your eye is.
All in all, I wouldn't worry unless the pin is less than 2" or more than 4.5-5".
2-5" is workable and acceptable for most people; 2.5-4" is preferred by most bowlers and pro shops. Some people want 1", some want 5" for their own reasons.
