Pin in ring finger layout
« on: January 09, 2007, 06:17:31 AM »
Can anyone describe the reaction to expect from this?  My guess is it's relative to the distance your ring finger hole is to your pap and how high it is up from your midline.  I had a  Desert Heat drilled this way because with the pin below my ring finger my track clipped the middle finger hole, so I think this may be as far down as I can go while still being in the safe zone for a high tracker.  I will try this ball tonight and post my opinion.

You're right.  It still depends on the distance to PAP and what the ball is made to do.  I have a Saturn drilled like this.  Almost zero flare for the first 40 feet, then a smooth arc.  The distance to my PAP with the pin in the ring finger is 5" and the height above the midline is 2 1/4".

Trackoholic,

It also depends on the ball, its core and where and how you want to use it.

Also it depends on what the 'up' portion of your PAP measurement is and how high the ring finger is above the midline. (For the Rico drill, even high trackers can, have the potential to use that drill BUT pin position must be the same distance above the center of the grip that is equal to the 'up' protion of your PAP.)

Recently, for some reason, I couldn't make up my mind on a few balls whether to put the pin above or below the ring finger; so, of course, where did I put it? Yup, in it.

It worked for some, almost worked for others, and didn't work for a couple. Sometimes you have to just experiment. Pin in the ring is as valid as any other position depending on the ball's basic reaction and pin position you need/want. I learned and was told that the only caution is to place the pin either directly in the ring finger hole OR place it 3/4 - 1" away to avoid possible complications.

Have fun & good luck.

Had a Slash drilled pin in ring and it worked great. Smooth arc.

If you are going to try this watch your pin distance.

Definately a control drill.  I will try at a different house on Fri that usually has screaming backends.  This is where this ball will be really handy.
