pin in vs. pin out?
« on: July 25, 2003, 06:04:47 PM »
I couldn't find what I was looking for using the search function so thought I would post it here again. I know this has been discussed before some time ago but do to some differing opinions around my centers I would like your take on this. In general, what type of different reactions should you expect to see between the two if you were to drill the same type of ball with the different pin to cg distances? On the columbia web site they state a pin in ball gets more lenth and a pin out ball hooks earlier. I always thought a pin in ball rolled earlier with a smoother back end and a pin out ball got down the lane farther with a more pronounced backend. I know you have less drilling options with a pin in ball so to get the same drill pattern on both is tough but like I said, in general what should you expect? The reason this came up is I have a friend who throws nothing but pin in balls because they work best for him and he gets great back end with his bowling balls. He is a medium speed stroker and say's everytime he get's a ball drilled and it is a pin out ball he has no luck with it and ends up selling it and getting another with a pin in. Any thought's?

You are correct with your thoughts on pin in vs. pin out ball reactions. Pin in will roll earlier and arc more, while pin outs will go longer and snap more. =:^D
