Another Tracking question

Okay, I've heard of high tracking and low tracking depending on how far/close to the fingers and thumb.

What about if the track is about three inches left of the fingers but right next to the thumb?  We found my PAP and it turns out to be about 1/2in to the right and below the ring finger.  Right handed, keep in mind.

Is this common?

Are you sure your PAP is correct?  As you describe the track I would have guessed about 4" over and 1 1/2" up.  --  JohnP

4" over and 1.5" up is about where I described, I think.  I wasnt sure of the measurements, so I used the ring finger as the base of comparison.

thats pretty normal, you have an average track maybe a little higher but you confused me whenever you started talking about your PAP, its 1.5ins away?

The "up" coordinate is a little high.You may be turning the ball early.Many top bowlers today have up coordinates in the 0" to 1/2" range but of course there are always exceptions.Actually, some of stongest releases i've seen are "down" or inverted.

Steve Lang measured the PAP, and he also remarked on the height of the location.  He said he very rarely sees one that high, but it does happen once in a good while.

It's the horizontal component that has me puzzled.  1/2" right of the RF hole.  Allow 1/8" for half the bridge and 1" for the RF hole, that makes the horizontal 1 5/8" over.  I've never seen one less than 3 1/2" over.  --  JohnP

Added on edit:  Actually, the VAL will curve away from the grip centerline going down from the PAP to the midline.  So maybe the horizontal component is 2 1/4" instead of 1 5/8".  Still have never seen one that small.

On a serious note, I guess I'm swimming against the tide of bowling ball mechanics and physics.  I'll try to post a more recent video soon just to see if that will provide any sort of information.

How can you say that?  He hasn't said anything at all about the diameter of the track, just the location.  Tilt strictly depends on diameter.  While the location of the PAP is more common for someone with a small track we really just don't know.  --  JohnP
