My PAP is 4 over and 3/8 up. Given the following being equal:
* CG distance and/or MB distance to PAP
* CG and/or MB position relative to grip center
* Top weights
* Identical made/model balls
...my reaction changes greatly just by moving the pin from above and to the right of the ring finger to above and to the left of the middle finger.
It's a distance of what, 1 inch? Inch and a half? But boy, does it make a difference.
Pin above and to the right of ring is actually a fairly aggressive drill for me; ball jumps off the dry and I can use it on oil patterns with higher volumes.
Pin above and to the left of middle is extremely tame, smooth and I can typically only use it when the shot begins to dry out quite a bit.
Something to watch for: For me, at least, I have to be very careful once the pin gets over the middle finger; the further up and to the left it gets, the more likely I am to move the bowtie to a point that I start clipping the finger holes.
Also, someone mentioned pin-under-fingers drillings -- those have their place in my game, too, but I have to watch about clipping the thumbhole.
My favorite drill is pin directly over the bridge, about 1 inch, with CG in the palm and MB (if there is one) in the strong position. I do very well with that drilling.
