Thumb pitches
« on: September 28, 2005, 05:14:50 PM »
I have a small callous on the right side of my thumb *looking down at it" i am right handed also. It is just slightly above the knuckle.

Will a change in lateral pitch fix this? And what way do i want to go with it?

Im assuming move toward the area that is sticking? So that would mean to change my left lateral pitch?

Moe -- The first thing we have to do is be sure we're all talking about the same spot on your thumb.  Picture a circle (representing a ball) with the thumb hole near the bottom and the fingers toward the top.  Now picture your thumb being inserted into the thumb hole.  Where on the hole does the callous hit -- top of the hole is 12:00, right side is 3:00, bottom is 6:00, etc.  The problem may be caused by improper pitch, but it could also be caused by improper gripping (bending the thumb at the knuckle, or "knuckling").  --  JohnP

JonP:It would be at around 11 o'clock.

I did have a problem gripping the ball and knuckling/clawing. I was using 1/4 reverse pitch then, i have since moved to 1/4 foward. One of the videos in my profile titled "approach" shows me gripping the ball, and muslcing it (brunsNick told me that last night.)

Unfortunetly i have no new footage using the new pitch.

Deadbait: Thanks for the advice. I have noticed when filming myself, that i tend to turn early. I use slug's in all of my equipment.

What is "palm pitch"?

Moe -- That would be on the left side of your thumb (to a driller).  If the other problems mentioned aren't causing the callous, try moving the lateral pitch a little to the left, say by 1/8 or 3/16.  --  JohnP
