Title: Pin placement
Post by: CHAMPIONBOWLER on September 27, 2005, 06:35:02 AM
Does anyone know what pin placement means?  For example: like above the finger holes or toward the thumb hole?  I like to hook the ball a lot and I was thinking about placing a pin 4-inches or more above my ring finger.  What would this make the ball do?  I hope someone knows.

Small letters please.  No need to yell.

A pin that far above the ring finger would, all other things being equal, give the ball massive length.  In general the higher the pin the greater the length; the closer to the thumb the earlier the roll.

A friend has a Phenom with the pin placed about 3-4" above his ring finger and it picks up a pretty late roll.  I think that high, by the time the ball gets around to reacting, it's practically at the pins.  He gets very little reaction out of it, considering the Phenom was a very strong ball (and no, it's not a too-little-oil problem).
