Favorite Drilling

What are your opinions on drilling  bowling balls.

Is is a bad thing to drill your favorite layout in 5 or 6 different bowling balls and let the core, cover, and release dictate the ball reaction.

I have like 5 different balls now that have the same drilling in them
( pin under bridge cg kicked out and a low hole)  5 - 5 1/2 inch pin
they all do a little something different.

It's my favorite layout as well, and I agree with you, as long as the cover and cores differ, you'll get various looks (hook more or hook less) but similar ball shapes.

While I don't disagree with doing that, you could save yourself some money if you have access to a spinner.  Just change the surface prep as needed, if you know what conditions you'll be facing.  If you have the money, your way works great too.

I like having different balls with the same layout but different cores and covers, for example when I am at a tournament and my Virtual energy is starting to check up too soon and the oil pattern is forcing you to play a certain part of the lane, it is nice to be able to shell down and stay in the same area....with the same drilling.

Yes.  It's nice to be able to do that, but I wouldn't fill my bag with all the same drilling.  Maybe two pin up, two pin down, different cover preps.

I will have 2 or 3 Pin ups in the bag also for when I have to get in deep and need more angle.

There aren't a lot ways to drill symmetrical bowling balls so I mainly try to use the covers and cores to help with the ball reaction...

I think that is fine for THS but on more demanding conditions you need some different layouts.
