Title: Pins above the midline???
Post by: Next Level PS on May 19, 2005, 03:28:20 PM
Techies and drillers, is their a rule on how high the pin can be placed above the midline. i'm sure their has to be a rule on hieght above the midline. Today a customer brought in a ball that had pin 4 1/4" above the midline he threw it a few times and it loop down the lane and  hook and stop. I measured the distanced from pin to thumb and it was 7 1/2". with the thumb hole drilled 3" deep does this place the hole at the bottom half of the core and make it transition too quick and and give it hook stop.

I was not referring to a "rule" but a rule of thumb some thing that the high end real proshops know of and understand.

I believe that Cg has nothing to do with it i'm thinking of core shape. the effects of the thumb being so low in the core body.

Ultimately, it is still the distance from the pin to the PAP.  Assymetrical balls might get a little mass bias difference, but not much.  I like some of those drills with big pin out balls, pin 2"+ above my fingers or whatever....
