pitch experimenting
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:16:39 PM »
usually i use 3/8 fw and 1/8 right. i decided that with the amount of forward pitch im unable to get a clean release so i took a shot at 1/2 reverse and 0 on my avalanche solid. so far thumb flies out and im able to lift the ball without having to worry about thumbing the ball. is this usually the case with reverse pitch?

going from 3/8 forward to 1/2 reverse was probably to large of a move.  i would have tried all 0.  but yes, as you use reverse more from 3/8 you should be coming out faster.

ive tried a bunch of different fwrd and rev pitches and 3/8 was good up until they put some weird oil pattern out in league and i shooting miserably for about 3 weeks so i said alright i need more hand in the ball lets get out faster so i used the avalanche tonight and shot 678 with it so ima practice with it for about a week and see if ill do it to all my thumbs

what's your span?  unless it's like 3"  or you have a super flexible thumb joint, you should be reverse pitch in the thumb.

I have had the same problem and i have found the same thing but people have made fun of me when i tell them that i have 3/16 Left Lat and 7/16 reverse and i get out of the ball smooth as butter now. Although people keep telling me its not good to have that much reverse it has shown amazing results for me. cause my old spare ball i put away only had a 1/8 forward in it and i would literally hang up in the thumb every time

with reverse pitch, the thumb usually comes out cleaner, but the problem i ran into with reverse, was when i tried to slow the ball down. it came off so fast, that at times i couldn't come through all the way and so i felt i loss some reaction. when i was at my normal speed, it didn't cause any problems.

but that was just me. my pitch now is 1/16 forward and 0.

im going to start playing w/ forward pitch
w/ a reverse i have to have too much hand pressure
i want my hand totally relaxed, and forward pitch has allowed me to get the cleanest release thus far
