I bought an old Gil-mac drill press to start drilling my own balls and this came in the box of "extra stuff". Looks to be a pitch gauge (bottom of it is contoured perfectly to rest on a bowling ball). However, I believe I am missing something. There does not seem to be a way to center the shaft in the hole. It cannot read accurately if it is sloppy in the hole! Has anybody seen or used one of these before?

I'm not an expert on Gil Mac, but isnt that supposed to be mounted on the press to display your setup pitches?

That looks like an instrument that Fred Flintstone might have used.

I dunno Greg. I cannot find a place on the press that appears to accept this gauge. The pitches are not able to be locked in on this device. There is a "plunger" that goes down into the hole of the ball, but it does not fit tightly in the hole. When it wobbles in the hole, the readings vary. I believe there must've been some sort of bushing set to allow it to fit snugly in the hole. It would be pretty slick to get it to work properly. It reads pitches on both planes at the same time. Old stuff is cool!
