Pitched balance holes

What are the advantages to pitching a balance
hole?? What does the pitching do and what are
you looking for the ball to do when you do
pitch the balance hole?

In the old days guys would drill a hole 9 inches from the grip center in a 4:30 direction.  The idea was this hole would both increase imbalance...as hole was not on pap AND raise top weight(any hole FARTHER than 6 3/4 away from grip center is on the bottom half of ball(it's equator) and takes weight away from bottom half of ball and raises top weight).

Well today balls flare so much that for many high rev players holes past the val(a vertical line thru pap) often get hit by flare rings(for the big handed).

So ball manufacturers discovered that holes could be placed on VAL and if pitched away(right for a righty and left for a lefty) would add top weight also and increase reaction.

For maximum increase pitch 1 inch.  I have enjoyed pitching 1/2 inch as it increases reaction but not as much.

Going straight in is nice if the backends are big!

PS holes straight in but 1 inch past pap are fine for the medium handed and often add plenty of reaction!

What about pitching towards grip center? What exactly does this do for ball reaction, decrease flare?

Lefty, wouldn't you theoretically be able to pitch a weighthole in such a fashion to not hit the core and thus not change the core shape/RG numbers?  Because when drilling a weighthole it changes the shape of the core and the numbers in addition to the static weight right?  Just a thought, because some people don't like altering the core with weightholes, so I was wondering if it's possible to drill them so that they can change the static weights but not affect the core much if at all.  Or is it that core shapes nowadays make that impossible?  Or possibly dependant on specific cores?

Pitching the weighthole removes core mass from the respective weighthole direction.  The resultant dynamics is a result of that mass removal and not the ending static weights.

Pitched holes are good when using strong layouts and want more flare but fear flaring over a weighthole below the axis.
