Flaring over middle finger....HELP
« on: August 13, 2006, 05:50:29 AM »
Ok, got my Solid Uranium and already there is a problem. When the ball flips over and the bowtie expands, the inside ring of the bowtie is flaring right over the middle of my middle finger. Here is how it's layed out:

.... O O
..... ....P

......O.....CG

................ WH

My PAP is 5" over and 1/4" up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. What is the solution. I hate to plug and redrill.

Pin up drillings will raise the bow tie.  This should help.

Usually a bowler that has a high ball track can't use pin under drillings because of the problem you desribed.

I have this problem and I do have a pin down drilling very much like Charles has stated. So if I plug and redrill with the pin next to or even in the ring finger that should cure my flaring over the MF??

I'd say it has more to do with the cg and weight hole location than the pin.  I am also a high tracker but I do not have balls drilled with the cg below the midline regardless of where the pin is.

Your PAP is only 5" over AND you have the Weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant and you're still thumping the middle finger. That is bizarre!

Have you asked your driller to "cure"  this?
If so, what did he/she say?
Did he or she check the CG before drilling?

How far down and over from grip center is that weight hole?
I ask this because usually (999 times out of 100), a weight hole 3" or so under the PAP will cause the bowtie to raise enough so that high trackers (maybe a 5 3/4" or 6" PAP) can put the pin under the bridge area and not worry about this problem. You are NOT a high tracker, with a 5" PAP, as you probably already know.

I remain mystified.
My PAP is also 5" over; I never have any trouble putting the pin anywhere, even using a Rico drill (pin in grip center) on a high flaring core.

The only time my track raises a little is when I put the pin under the middle finger on a Power Groove, which has a modified pancake core.

I know this doesn't help much. So, other than redrilling and insuring the pin is at or above the ring finger area, I see no solution. Sorry.

WHat was the top weight before drilling?  Just curious.

I believe the reason for the flaring over the hole is due to the low pin placement. The CG has a minimal effect unless the topweight is so high that your driller had to use a crater for a weight hole

I will get the exact static weights and repost this evening......weight hole is not a crater. It is pretty deep but not wide. I have a similar layout on my OVertime and never had trouble with this.
