axis tilt
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:19:01 AM »
I know this has been talked about here, but I have a couple of questions. I'm trying to reduce my tilt and/or enlarge my track. Does anyone have a link to some sites that discuss this & goes into detail. I can vary my rotation somewhat, but need help with the tilt aspect. Thanks!

Try simple things like keeping your wrist straight throw the entire delivery
and try not turning the ball.

One major mistake many of us do is trying to HELP the ball hook by turning our hand during the downswing. This is usually before the thumb has left the thumbhole and this will definitely result in a low track. Try not to turn the ball at all- for most of us, liftng thru the ball will almost always result in some wrist or hand turn at the release point. The point is to any "turning" (a kind of dirty word in bowling) should be done AFTER the thumb leaves the thumb hole.

One of the former ideals was Earl Anthony. If you can watch one of his tapes, he did any "turning" with the wrist of fingers. He kept his thumb at 12:00 all through the release. Keeping your thumb in that position insures you're not turning the ball in the down swing.

Thanks! I've been on his site several time, but overlooked those. That is just what I was looking for.

Thanks for the tips guys. Turning my hand has always been a problem for me. It seems like when I try not to, I just roll a dud nothing ball with minimum hook, but it still doesn't seem to raise the track.
Drrev, my span is 4 1/2" & I have 1/8 forward & 1/16 rt pitch in my thumb. My PAP used to be 5" over & 5/8 up, but now it is barely 4 1/2 over & about 1/4 up. I'll just have to keep working on my release to accomplish my goal. Thanks again for your replies.
