Plug and redrill or just change surface?

I have a fairly new Columbia Hyde with the pin located about 2 3/4" from my pap.  The pin is below and to the right of the ring ringer.  If I plug the ball and redrill it placing the pin 4" from the pap and keeping it to the right and below the ring finger, would it really make a big change in the overall reaction of the ball other than getting more length?  Would not changing the surface accomplish the same thing?

Shining the ball up will make the ball push further down the lane, that will change no matter what the drilling is.  By changing the pin and weight hole position you will alter the shape of the reaction down the lane.  Generally a 4" pin will rev up a little later than a 2 3/4" pin, the weight hole position is also crucial to the equation.

I would try shining it up first....if that doesn't work then go to extreme measures (plug).

If you change the pin to PAP from 2 3/4" to 4" the pin will end up either further left (under the MF), higher (above the finger holes), or some combination of the two.  --  JohnP

I would think it's always better to change the surface first and if that does not work, then try a plug and redrill.  That's just my opinion though.
