Title: Plugging a ball that had an It in it

Trying to allow my son the cheap way to try different layouts and coverstock, cores, etc. The idea was to buy used stuff off Ebay and plug and redrill, rather than breaking the bank on new stuff all the time.

Was told we can plug and redrill and as long as we do the thumb plug in lifts, plugging it 1/3 of the hole at a time, we should have no cracking issues with the ball.  Pro shop owners/ball drillers is this true? What do you think?

I normally plug balls that have a switch grip of any sort in two stages and have no problems. I do the same for 1 3/8 slugs

4 of my balls had switch grips from the previous owner.  I've had no problems with any of them after doing a 2 stage plug.

Like the other have mentioned, pour it in two stages for best results.  If you do it all at once the material tends to get hot too fast.

Two stage works very well....Also if your shop uses the ice cube trays for left over plug, if you pack the hole with those cubes and then pour the new plug, it will be fine in one stage of plugging.

I have rolled the dice and plugged in one stage multiple times without issue. That said....I also have had them crack from overheating. Probably about 50/50 at this point.

2 stage plugging is the best way to go unless you are in a real hurry.
