drillings for a high tracker
« on: September 16, 2009, 04:45:42 PM »
with my track being so high it seems like i am very limited in the ways my stuff can be drilled. all my stuff is drilled pin over or right next to the fingers. anytime i try and put the pin down it clips the holes. i really would like to try a rico drill but i am afraid it will roll over the holes. any input would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

I track high as well.  For me the only pin-downs that clip the holes are pin directly below middle finger(righty).  I can use all others.  I have a Phenom with a Rico drill with no issues.

You may be the better bowler, but my car would blow the doors off of yours.

i was talking to a friend of mine and he read an article that stated if one wanted to bring their track away from the holes a little bit, to try adding about 1/4" lateral, which would put the thumb closer to the palm.

not sure if that is true or not. i track high as well and may try this in a ball just to see how it feels and if my track does get a little lower.

i have 2 pin down balls. 1 is 4 1/2" away & other is 5" away, and both of them are very close to thumb. i would think if you drill a ball with some flare, that it would help get it away from the thumb a little better for ya. just some thoughts.

Adding a 1/4 lateral to me, means changing pitch angles.  adding right pitch in the finger holes (for a righty) will pull the track off the fingers, but will make the bowler spin it more.

I wouldn't suggest changing thumb pitches unless the bowler is complaining about feel.  You could drop the ring finger back 1/8 or 1/4 to try and get the bowler to 'spin' it more too.  Taking finger grips out of the ball will also help lower tracks.

I track close to the finger and almost clip the thumb hole.  I have a couple RICO layouts and they're fine.  Pin down layouts are my favorite.  The only ones i have to stay away from are pin down and pin-to-pap distances greater than 5 5/8".

Experimentation is they key!
