Pulled tendon in ring finger

 I pulled the tendon in my hand last season and ended up having to take 9 months off. This season I started bowling again and for the couple weeks everything felt great but after that the pain came back and now it is worse than ever. The doctor told me that I should no longer bowl. I tried bowling left handed but that just didn't for to good.  What I am doing now is bowling with my ring finger completely out of the ball but I find that I don't have control that I need.  I tried a sarge easter grip but I could still feel the pain in my hand.  My Driller is recommending that I have my ball drilled using only my index finger and my middle finger. I am just curious if anyone has done this before and what the results were?

I just thought I would update this topic. I ended up having a ball drilled using my index and middle fingers and the result was MUCH better than expected. I was able to bowl 10 games without any pain, this is the most games I have played in over 2 years with all the pain I was in. Normally after a couple games I can no longer handle the pain, I might actually be able to get back into league bowling again. My ball actually looks pretty good too, my track shifted a little farther away from my thumb hole but the roll and ball reaction looks pretty good. At this point I may keep this drilling for all my balls and just be happy to bowl pain free.

I've always wondered about this and couldn't get answers.  It's like the pro shop guys are programmed to just make everybody's ring finger span longer.  One fitting ball is even made in a way to promote that.  Actually, I think that my ring finger span is longer when measured, but I think the flexibility is inferior to the middle finger.  I always feel like my ring finger is stretched out, and get minor tendon pain sometimes when I use balls with longer ring finger spans.  I also noticed that almost all the top pros have equal cut-to-cut measurements, or the ring finger is slightly shorter.

Pro shops should use the ACTUAL span distance, and for many of us it ends up being approximately 1/8" further for the ring finger. Not everyone has the same hand.
Last week I measured a guy 3 times and got the same span distance for both fingers each time.  It happens... I am confident the ball will fit very well.
Blanket statements that say every hand is "this way" or "that way" are asinine and contribute to the plethora of misinformation already out there.
To the original poster, perhaps a "pinky" hole will also help your cause. We try them frequently with bowlers who experience pain from arthritis, injuries, or whatever.  It just takes some of the pressure or strain off the two fingers by spreading it over 3 fingers. Just an idea though.

I clearly stated that not all hands measure the same!  Just check individualy to be sure.

My post included your quote, but it was the other comment about pro shops being "programmed" a certain way that caught my ire. Your quote makes perfect sense to me, so I didn't mean it towards you. On second look grouping your post with the one I disagree with should not have been done.
Bowlers, if your pro shop is "programmed" a certain way you should find another one, period.

You agreed with the other post that was unhappy with drillers making the ring finger span longer for EVERYONE, yet you didn't agree that I agreed and said they seemed to be programmed that way?  That's kind of weird.  That means you didn't agree with him, and you got upset that I said they seem to be programmed that way.  As I said for myself, I do supposedly have a longer ring finger span.  But, I almost NEVER see guys with a ball that isn't a longer ring finger span.  Thus, the generalization that those pro shop drillers that give EVERYONE a longer ring finger span seem to be programmed that way.  We can all agree that measured span is the best way to go! What I added my measured span makes my ring finger feel stretched out.  But hey, maybe it's being measured incorrectly.

My point is that we are all different. I disagreed with your statement that pro shop guys are "programmed" to doing things only one way.  If your pro shop operator has closed his mind he needs to be replaced. There are just too many variables because we are all different.
 
Having said that, just because I disagree with something you said it's not always a bad thing. It just means we disagree. I certainly don't have all the answers, and thus avoid the "blanket" statements about pro shop operators, bowlers, bus drivers, or any other group.
 
I find it difficult sometimes to type what I am trying to get across, and suspect others do too. Sometimes the words I type don't fit what I was attempting to say after I re-read them. I do, stand behind my words, and apologize, if necessary, rather than delete many posts. I do not hide behind a screen name, either. Anyone can reach me within a few key strokes and we can talk further.
 
If you are offended, I am sorry. If I understood your post correctly, it temporarily offended me, but I am past it already. We are not perfect and will occasionally have disagreements. That doesn't make us bad people. It just means we just did not agree on that one thing. We probably agree on way more things than we don't.

You really don't need a fitting ball.You can use one of your currently drilled balls.Notice on

page 5 the instructions on checking the bowlers middle and ring finger for flexibilty.
